In the world of Final Fantasy, life goes on endlessly. Famous people can live and die without much of the world changing. But when the natural order is destroyed, and the delicate balance between good and evil is thrown out of alignment, the planet is seized by some sort of cataclysmic event, and most of the surface world is destroyed. Anxious to find reason for this cycle of growth and destruction, the ruling beings of the planet created a massive underworld to serve as a method of examining the those who have set about the events leading to no less than six global disasters. Separated in order of the times from whence they came, the people of Final Fantasy 1-6 have been deparated into six respective rings of the underworld, living their lives similar to the same way they had before, struggling to survive, struggling against evil, and ignorant of the other rings of the afterlife but their own. Death still a serious matter in the afterlife, but not the critical solution it once was. Once somebody passes away, they are reborn near a spire in the northern area. In most places, small towns form some distance away from the spire, making a healthy profit shuttling the newly reincarnated people back home. Once reborn, the person suffers from some sort of amnesia which prevents them from remembering much of what happened after they died. Oddly enough, non-intelligent creatures tend to be reborn in random locations. However, all is not well in the afterlife. Events on the surface are causing the natural order in the underworld to collapse. Monsters have become more aggressive, and the forces of evil are strengthening. The afterlife is breaking down into a Torturous cycle of death and rebirth. The heroes from each ring have realized this, and have set about trying to fix it. |

The first ring of the afterlife, know to outsiders as the people of Final Fantasy 1, have dealt with the situation almost identical to the way they did in life. The smaller towns have formed militias to defend themselves, but so far have only had to deal with the occasional wild monster. The larger cities of Coneria and Elfland have founded their own armies, and keep any serious monster threats at bay. These armies, however, have proven to be no match for the larger threats of creatures such as the Blue Dragon, or worse, and organized monster army. In order to combat that threat, the band of six protectors have been organized again to protect the innocent from harm. This band has proven more than capable of dealing with threats before their departure, and have continued with their task of protecting the innocent. Behind the order, much of the land is in turmoil. People who venture outside their relatively safe towns disappear, only to reappear at at the gates of the Spire. The town at the northern edge of the Great Western desert, Northgate, is a newly founded encampment near the oasis and a ten day hike from the Spire. Most people looking to reclaim their lost loved ones must travel across the desert, and then hike through the mountains to find them. Many elect not to go themselves, and wait for the yearly "Great Reclaiming" festival, where the entire town leaves on the treacherous journey to find these lost people, and sent them home. The adversaries of the first Final Fantasy are rarely seen. The likes of Astos, Kary, and even Warmech are rarely seen. Many people believe that a conspiracy exists between the whole bunch, and they're plotting some conspiracy to take over the afterlife. There's no evidence to prove this, but it can be assured that they're up to no good. The only piece of good news is that the threat of Chaos is non-existant. In the valley south of Gaia, for some unexplicable reason, Chaos is frozen in an unusual glacier, unable to move. |
